Dominic Tomalin, Vice Principal

Dominic joins CATS Cambridge for September 2016. He brings a wide range of expertise across various subject areas, teaching and learning, pastoral roles and higher education.

Before joining CATS Cambridge, he was Head of Economics & Business and Head of Further Education at Culford School. In addition to these roles he also led a strategic review of teaching and learning at Culford, building on his interest in educational psychology and the implications of recent developments in neuroscience and ICT for education. 

Prior to working at Culford he was at Kelly College for 7 years, where he taught Maths, Physics, Economics and Business Studies to A level and he was also a senior boys’ housemaster. Before entering teaching he held a variety of senior roles in the defence, logistics and telecommunications sectors, having previously served as an officer in the Corps of Royal Engineers, the civil engineering branch of the British Army.

Chantal Beeston, Registrar

Chantal read Music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, followed by a PGCE at the University of Cambridge.

She began her teaching career as a teacher of Music and Drama, and sixth-form tutor at Parkside Federation Academies in Cambridge. She became Head of Music in 2012 at the American school of Marrakech, and then Head of Performing Arts and Housemistress at Finborough School in Suffolk.

Susanna de Beer, Assistant Principal Pastoral

As a life-long learner with a keen interest in research, Susanna holds degrees in psychology, education as well as an MBA in Educational leadership and she currently reinvests her own learning into teaching A level psychology.

With more than twenty years of teaching experience in England, USA and South Africa, Susanna believes that student wellbeing forms one of the cornerstones of student achievement. Beyond her teaching, she therefore dedicates her time and energy to ensure that all CATS students experience high levels of pastoral support and personal development during their time at CATS.

She is also responsible for Induction and facilitating Student Voice at the College.

I make sure our students have a "soft landing" settle well into their new surroundings, meet new friends and make a great start before the hard graft of the academic year begins.

Qadeer Afzal, Assistant Principal Academic

Qadeer has been a teacher of Mathematics for nearly twenty years and has taught it many different schools and colleges in England. Qadeer spent six years in a private school in Saudi Arabia .

With this wealth of experience he is conscious of the demands of today's society in ensuring high standards in teaching and quality of delivery the best possible lessons day after day.

Mathematics is a subject many students enjoy and always want to excel on. This can be achieved with hard work and a perseverance and is a quality Qadeer expects from all his students.
