Preparing for a career in medicine: CATS student secures her place at medical school

University preparation 15 February 2019

Congratulations to Hiranya from Singapore who has accepted her place to study medicine at St. George’s University, Grenada starting in September 2019.

One step closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor, she commented:

“I’m really fortunate to be a student at CATS. I like the way the teachers teach and the amount of effort they put in to make sure we learn all the concepts clearly.”

CATS offers extra opportunities to help students like Hiranya prepare for competitive degrees. She was able to gain valuable work experience at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital Headway Trauma Centre helping patients with brain injury. This boosted her university application:

“As well as work experience at the hospital I also joined medics club which helped me with my UKCAT entrance exam. They trained me really well. All of this has added a lot of value to my personal statement and because of CATS I understand the sciences better.”

St. George's University is a private university in Grenada, West Indies, offering medical students the opportunity to study an MD (US) or MBBS (UK) degree in as little as five years. The university also has international partnerships which means that it is possible to study part of the degree in the US or UK and have access to clinical training in over 70 affiliated US or UK hospitals.

Watch Hiranya talk about her experience in full:

Across the colleges, students have received offers for highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science, Law, Business and Architecture. To help students achieve competitive offers, CATS Colleges offer a range of extra opportunities through its Key Professions Programme

The programme includes one-to-one university application support (personal statement assistance, interview practice and entrance exam preparation), seminars from leading academics and professionals in the fields of law, finance and medicine and visits to a range of universities.

Students can choose from a variety of activities to prepare for Oxbridge or the subjects of Medicine, Law, Architecture and Business.
