Oxbridge interview success for CATS students

University preparation 19 December 2018

Congratulations to 16 CATS students who have successfully secured an interview at the top two world ranked universities* – the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.

Six students have interviews relating to reading a Science – Natural Science, Biology, Medicine and Veterinary Science. Other popular subjects which students have achieved interviews for are Maths (3 students) and Computer Science (3 students).

Talking about getting an interview to study Veterinary Science, a student from South Korea said:

“I was really excited when I found out that I got an interview, I immediately called my mum and screamed down the phone!”

A Malaysian student, who has chosen to read Law, talks about how her CATS experience helped her achieve an interview:

“My first work experience was in a law firm and I became really intrigued in the subject. It is really complex and there is so much to learn. I also love to debate and work at solving disputes.

“I joined the Law Society at CATS Cambridge and I have been involved in Model United Nations too, which has helped me develop the skills I’ll need at university.”

It is a great achievement to secure an interview at one of these prestigious universities. Approximately 1 in 2 applicants get an interview at the University of Oxford with guidance saying:

“Tutors shortlist the candidates they feel have the strongest potential and meet their selection criteria best”.

The interview guidance from the University of Cambridge states:

“Everyone with a realistic chance of being offered a place is invited to attend an interview – that's around 75 per cent of applicants each year.”

To help students achieve university success and prepare for a competitive profession, CATS Colleges offer a range of extra opportunities through its Key Professions Programme.

The programme includes one-to-one university application support (personal statement assistance, interview practice and entrance exam preparation), seminars from leading academics and professionals in the fields of law, finance and medicine and visits to a range of universities.

Students can choose from a variety of activities to prepare for Oxbridge or the subjects of Medicine, Law, Architecture and Business.

Students will find out the results of the Oxbridge interviews in January. We wish them every success.
