Our academic summer programmes provide short courses for students with interests in specific universities, careers or gaining an understanding of UK education.

Oxbridge Preparation Programme

Cambridge UK | 2 or 3 weeks | Summer 2017

Dates: 25th June–15th July 2017 and 2nd July-15th July 2017
Price: £1,100 per week (includes airport transfers, food and accommodation)
Entry requirements: minimum English standard: equivalent to IELTS 5.0+/upper intermediate level
Average class size: 12-15
Ages: 15-17

Oxbridge Preparation Programme

Expert Oxbridge advice
Learn from and speak with Admissions Tutors and Oxbridge students about entry requirements and studying there.

Develop passion for your subject
The most important aspect of a potential student - learn to demonstrate a real passion for your subject through a development plan and two-year reading list.

Thinking and learning skills
Use Critical Thinking to review evidence, form judgments and present reasoned arguments. Practice Analytical Thinking skills to analyse information, draw trends and solve problems. Use proven speed reading and memory recall techniques to work smarter and learn more effectively in the same amount of time.

Communication skills
Going beyond 'what you say' to 'how you say it'. We train you on body language, tone of voice and expressions to develop effective interview techniques.

Interview questions practice
Using your newly developed critical and analytical thinking skills, you will learn how to answer the toughest Oxbridge interview questions. 

Programme Outcomes:

1. Consider difficult interview questions such as the following:

  • How many grains of sand are there in the world? (Physics, Oxford)
  • Would you rather be a novel or a poem? (English, Oxford)
  • How would you poison someone without the police finding out? (Medicine, Cambridge)
  • If a wife had expressed distaste for it previously, would her husband's habit of putting marmalade in his egg at breakfast be grounds for divorce? (Law, Cambridge)

2. Have improved voice control, eye contact and body language to perform at your best in interview.

3. Know what to do in the next two years to demonstrate passion for your subject.

4. Have a better idea of what A level subjects and degree you wish to study. 

STEM Cambridge

If you’ve answered yes to these questions then this programme is for you - learn how Science, Mathematics and Coding can be applied to real world problems.

Real world experience
Our skilled teachers will help you to extend your Coding knowledge, to do hands-on Science and to see how your Mathematics skills can be applied to real Engineering and Technology problems.


Coding challenges
Each week will feature a Coding challenge, with help from our teachers so that you learn on the go. 

Practical competition
There will be a practical Physics/Engineering competition, designed to be completed in teams, using the skills and ideas of all the team members. The results will be presented and judged at the end of the programme. 


Hands-on Chemistry 
Throughout the programme you will have the chance to do hands-on Chemistry experiments in the lab and outside (when they’re especially messy). These will focus on the interface between Chemistry and materials science, such as making Polymers, dyes and
composite materials.


Mathematics and Mechanics
Your Applied Mathematics lessons will focus on mechanics in order to learn the Mathematics that is used to solve Physics and Engineering problems.

Programme Outcomes:

1. Understand how Science works in the real world and take part in Coding challenges.

2. Start to learn about Coding and improve your skills.

3. Improve your ability to work as part of a team.

4. Enter a practical Physics/Engineering competition with the results judged at the end of the programme.

UK Education Taster Programme

Canterbury UK | 2* or 3 weeks | Summer 2017

Entry requirements: minimum English standard: equivalent to IELTS 4.0+/intermediate level
Average class size: 12-15
Age: 14-16

Experience studying A level, International Baccalaureate and University Foundation in the UK before committing
Suitable for students who have yet to enrol on a programme of study at A level/International Baccalaureate/Foundation level.

UK Education Taster Programme

Learn about studying in the UK
Meet with past and present students to find out whether the UK is right for you. Your lessons will be taught in the style that is typical of the UK education system so you get to experience independent research methods, working as a team and disucssion-based assignments.

Discover the right subjects
Gain exposure to different subjects and extra-curricular activities to discover your skills and interests. A bespoke one-to-one academic counselling session matches your strengths to suitable subjects for your preferred profession and recommends either a focused or broad-based qualification.

Develop beyond the classroom
Introduction to 'Creativity, Action and Service' (CAS) and 'Theory of Knowledge' (ToK). Daily social activities also take place after lessons.

Tours of prestigious universities
Walking tour past renowned Russell Group universities, such as LSE, UCL, SOAS and King's College.

Through exposure to career-focused lessons and activities, discover which subjects you are passionate about and which career is best suited to you.

Meet leading professionals
Learn from and speak with professionals about working in law, business or finance.

Experience the workplace
Visit the types of places you could work at in the future for instance the London Stock Exchange and a Magistrates' Court.

Learn about the world of Medicine and gain a head start in your university applications. Suitable for students who wish to discover different career options in Medicine, and want to gain an understanding of university applications as well as UKCAT and BMAT preparation. This course will also help students to define which subjects to commit to at A level, International Baccalaureate or Foundation level.

Medics Preparation Programme

Meet industry professionals
Meet industry professionals and learn about what it is really like to work in Medicine - be it Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacology or any other Medicine-related career.

The Medical workplace
Experience the workplace, visit local medical facilities and understand more about how healthcare in the UK operates.

Interview skills
Practise interview and presentation skills through mock interviews (such as those asked at Oxford or Cambridge), receive information about UKCAT and BMAT, and enjoy walking tours past renowned Russell Group universities such as LSE, UCL, SOAS and King’s College.

Choosing the right career
Discover which career is right for you through career-focused lessons and activities, with a focus on skills such as Critical and Analytical Thinking, Braintraining and memory recall, and Leadership. 

Social programme
Enjoy social activities after lessons and in the evenings. Students negotiate and plan out their social programme.

Programme Outcomes:

1. You will have formed well-argued opinions about the nature of medicine and healthcare in the UK and be able to talk eflectively about your experiences.
2. Have experience of producing a Personal Statement to increase your chances of being accepted by a top UK Medical school.
3. Know which subjects to take at A Level or IB Diploma to qualify for your chosen career.
4. Develop an action plan of next steps to strengthen your future application.

Academic English

Canterbury UK | 3 weeks | Summer 2017

Dates: 2nd July-22nd July 2017 and 23rd July - 12th August 2017
Price: £2,460 for full course (includes airport transfers, food and accommodation)
Entry requirements: minimum English level: equivalent to IELTS 3.5+
Average class size: 10
Age: 14

Designed for international students looking for a full time intensive English course. Suitable for students with pre-intermediate English levels who want to blend developing general English with learning to use English for academic study. Gain confidence in working in an academic environment in English, critical for future study in the UK or US.

General Academic English programmes are also available on a weekly basis throughout the summer at all CATS UK campuses, although the social and activities programme will be less intensive. Students progressing to CATS Academic programmes for the new term in September 2017 will also be able to participate in other subject lessons on this course.

Academic English Programme

Academic vocabulary
Success in academic study is greatly enhanced by a wide range of specialist vocabulary at the right level. Experienced teachers understand the precise needs of study in English at this level, and students are exposed to key academic terms in a range of common subjects.

Full-time, intensive course
Our experienced teachers work with small classes so that content and delivery can be matched to the requirements of each student. Lessons are designed to stretch and challenge so that every student makes as much progress as they can.

General and academic English
Students benefit from developing their general English - reading, writing, speaking and listening - so that they become better communicators. They also gain experience of studying in a UK classroom, practising both academic vocabulary and command terms.

Confidence for further study
Education in the UK or US expects students to participate in lessons, listening and speaking with confidence. Academic English Programme classes help to develop confidence in using English in real life academic situations, so that students are well prepared for future lessons and courses.

Programme Outcomes:

1. You will develop confidence in listening to, speaking, reading and writing English at an appropriate level.
2. You will have a good grasp of some key academic vocabulary and terms.
3. You will understand the way that an academic lesson operates in the UK and be confident speaking out and listening to others.
4. You will have a clearly developed action plan as to what you need to do to improve your English.
